Passions of Kerala New World Park, Penang

Penang [檳城] • 24 MAY 2013
Passions of Kerala two outlets in Penang – one in Gelugor, and the other in New World Park.So this was my first introduction into banana leaf fare and dare I say it is magnificent value for money.

This eatery is clean too and I felt really comfy indulging in the tasteful dishes on offer. It seems to be popular amongst tourists and businessmen, Easterners and Westerners alike. Be warned though that portions are huge.

Food - must try: Deep-fried Bittergourd, Deep-fried Squid, Fried Fish, Lamb Masala, Crab Masala and Fried Chicken McNair. Must also try their Mango Lassi.

Service - pretty good, passable for a good dining experience.
Value - value for money, prices are better than some fancy banana leaf restaurants around town.
Conclusion - definitely will be back here again in future. Can get pretty crowded during lunch time, so go early. They take reservations too.

The banana leaf rice starts at RM5.50 with vege side dishes to complement, not forgetting the papadums as well. The curry fish head is the highlight so we waited for 30-minute long wait. We settled for the fried fish, curry chicken, fried squids and curry mutton. The curry mutton was really the star as it so tender and cooked to perfection.
