Penang [檳城] • 21 DECEMBER 2012
Chicago Rib House, said the banner. Hmmm…doesn’t that name ring a bell?
I was salivating over the thought of the delicious beef ribs served at Restoran Chicago Rib House as I made my way to Gurney Plaza to meet a friend for dinner and then the cinema. However on our arrival we discovered that the Chicago Rib House restaurant were introducing their new menu (Set Lunch ) on the very day we decided to dine there. There was a 30 minute wait for an inside table as it was very crowded.

Chew Jetty – A Stroll Down A Living Heritage Community Part 1, Penang

Penang [檳城] • 28 NOVEMBER 2012
(All Photos credited to my group of friends)
Having been a home on stilts on the shores for the Chew Clan community more than a century and is still now, the Chew Jetty has withstood the test of time and a strong testament of living heritage for Penang and the world to mesmerize.
Started merely as a wooden passageway and slowly created into a cluster of houses perch above the sea shores by stilts above the never ending shifting tides, this communal site is locked in a time zone by itself, disregarding the urban development that is taking place around it.

Prune butter cake 蛋糕

Penang [檳城] • 24 NOVEMBER 2012
This week, two bare prune cakes, without icing or decoration. The aim here was to capture the rich flavour of prune in these two unadorned cakes, one loaded with butter and the other quite simple with sunflower oil, wholemeal flour and muscovado sugar. I made both using just a wooden spoon and bowl – no high-speed mixing here – so they're also as lo-tech as you can get.

Sakae Sushi @ Gurney Plaza, Penang

Penang [檳城] • 20 NOVEMBER 2012
Most speak of love, but only one man bestowed the most enchanting of odes to his wife.
It all started in 1997 in Singapore, when having fine Japanese cuisine and fresh sushi meant spending top dollars. He noticed that his wife, an avid fan of Japanese food, was always dining consciously at such restaurants for fear of incurring an exorbitant bill.
And so the ode began. Motivated to make his wife’s sushi dining experience unique, fulfilling and carefree, he founded Sakae Sushi, a trendy restaurant haven where she, along with every Japanese food enthusiast, could enjoy the freshest, inexpensive Japanese savouries without a worry about cost.

Have you flown Air Asia before?

Penang [檳城] • 29 OCTOBER 2012
One of the biggest costs of travel are your flights. Flying is not cheap, and so as a result prevents many people from having that much craved for travel experience.
The cost of flights is an especially important consideration for those who travel with children.
Flights are usually long, uncomfortable and unmemorable- the main focus of your travels is to be able to spend money on those experiences that provide you with deep and long lasting memories.

Penang [檳城] • 24 OCTOBER 2012
Burger King is the place to come for great tasting burgers, “JUST THE WAY YOU LIKE THEM”.

Breakfast at Eng Loh Coffee Shop @ Church Street, Penang

Penang [檳城] • 14 OCTOBER 2012
At just after 9 a.m., the morning crowd at kopitiam — coffee shop,  — was steadily thickening. The thin veneer on our wood table was chipped; my plastic chair stuck to the back of my legs. And the scrawny man who materialized as soon as we sat grunted with impatience when we paused to think before ordering. He recommended me....

INTO THIN AIR Jon Krakauer

INTO THIN AIR
Jon Krakauer
Biography
Jon Krakauer grew up in Corvallis, Oregon, where his father introduced him to mountaineering as an 8-year-old. In 1999, upon presenting him with an Academy Award in Literature, the American Academy of Arts and Letters declared, "Krakauer combines the tenacity and courage of the finest tradition of investigative journalism with the stylish subtlety and profound insight of the born writer. His account of an ascent of Mount Everest has led to a general reevaluation of climbing and of the commercialization of what was once a romantic, solitary sport; while his account of the life and death of Christopher McCandless, who died of starvation after challenging the Alaskan wilderness, delves even more deeply and disturbingly into the fascination of nature and the devastating effects of its lure on a young and curious mind."
